Beyond Avoidance. What should you have done this year but didn’t because you were too scared, worried, unsure, busy or otherwise deterred from doing? (Bonus: Will you do it?)
I was supposed to go to the Allergist to get tested again for my food allergy....like last summer....Buuuut I never called and got an appointment because I know they'll tell me that yes my allergy is getting worse and I have to be more careful than ever and give me the usual list of stuff I'm not supposed to eat besides the tree nuts/peanuts... (chocolate, candy bars, eating out etc. etc.). Plus getting pricked in my back about 100 times (no joke, they prick my back from my shoulders to my very lower back) and then getting oils of different nuts dropped into each and every prick and having GINORMOUS hives form within seconds (literally). Not fun people, not fun AT ALL.
And will I go? Yes....because I have to since my EpiPen is a good 5 months expired and thats the only thing that will save me when I have a reaction until I get to the hospital and yeah, it'd be nice having one that isn't expired.
Future Self. Imagine yourself five years from now. What advice would you give your current self for the year ahead? (Bonus: Write a note to yourself 10 years ago. What would you tell your younger self?)I would tell myself to enjoy the year ahead of me, and not to take it for granted and wish it would just go by "faster". This time of my life while I'm still single and not a mother is the only time I can be selfish, and I probably only have a couple years left of it. So I need to enjoy each and every moment so I'm ready to give it up when the time comes.
And to myself 10 years ago?
Stop trying to grow up so fast! Enjoy being little since it will be over far too soon. Keep being carefree, and go spend more time with Aunt Kathy. No matter how hard it is to see her in that hospital bed shriveled up. Enjoy each moment with her, because she doesn't have much time left. Tell her you love her before her tumor moves again and she loses her ability to talk. Just enjoy life, ok? Everything will be ok.
Shannon, if you are in the Salt Lake area let me know. I work for an allergist. He is amazing and we do the testing on your arms. You might have to get a blood draw which is the only downer but let me know and I'll hook a sister up! Message me on facebook or something. But I am sorry to hear about your allergies. That is no fun! :(
ReplyDeleteMy allergist usually goes back and forth between using my arms and my back. But the last 6 years they've had to mainly use my back since they have to test me for so many nuts. And a back has A LOT more area than both my arms combined haha.
