Wisdom

Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out?
The wisest decision I made this year was to not go back to school. At first I was pretty mad and didn't understand fully why I shouldn't go back to school. But now I totally understand. Sometimes experience is worth way more than education. Becoming a Special Ed teachers is one where it's a good idea to have experience before you go into it. Not only so you  know what you're getting into, but so you can learn from the kids. So far working in special ed I've learned you can never say never. (ex. "this child will never be able to learn."). Even in the most severe children there is always some kind of hope. That doesn't mean teaching them will be easy, in fact, there is going to be a lot of trial and error to the point you'll just want to give up. But don't, just wait. Because once they get it for the first time, it'll feel like the heavens have opened and the angels are singing. It's seriously one of the best feelings ever when a new concept begins to click. Note that  I said "begins to click", before it fully 'clicks' it's going to take even more trial and errors. But it gets so much easier after it clicks for the first time. I love teaching my little special needs guy, I'm going to be devastated to have to say goodbye to him next year when I go back to school.
